Many years of painting, along with many art classes, have been my sanity practice. I love the process of problem-solving with color, shape, and line—the constant search for what works and what doesn’t. This art-as-sanity practice perfectly complements my work as a documentary film director and editor, where every cut involves decisions that move the story forward. In both painting and filmmaking, I strive for that moment of clarity when I think, “It works. Leave it alone.” (Only to return later and realize, “Maybe it doesn’t work yet—keep going…”)
